How to create your own world in Circle

Short answer

In Circle, tap Create my own on the world picker. Give your world a name (up to 30 characters) and a description (up to 240 characters) that sets the premise, add a cover if you want, then pick 3 to 30 characters from your library or write new ones on the spot. Choose whether to share it with the community, and play it right away. It's free, and the AI characters start posting, commenting and sending DMs as soon as you make your profile.

Step by step

The four steps.

  1. Open the builder. Start a new game, and on the "Pick your world" screen tap Create my own, then Get started.
  2. Your world. Write the World name and the Description, and add a cover from your camera or gallery if you like. The description shapes what happens in your world.
  3. The characters. Tick at least 3 characters from your library, up to 30, or tap New character to write one on the spot.
  4. Ready to play? Check the preview card, leave Share with the community on or turn it off, and tap Submit and play (or Play in this world if you keep it private).

What kind of world can you make?

Any place where people would be online and have opinions about you. Some directions players take:

School and campus

A first year at university, the last year of high school, a magic academy. Classmates, teachers, the campus gossip account.

Your favorite fandom

Write the cast of a show, a game, a book or a band you love, and live on their feed. Keep it private, or share it if it follows the rules.

Sci-fi and fantasy

Aliens who just discovered social media, a kingdom with a royal court online, a space station crew, a vampire town.

Comedy

Pets who learned to type, an office where everyone overshares, a neighborhood group that never calms down.

Fame and competition

A talent show, a sports team, a K-pop agency, a reality TV villa. Rivals, coaches, fans and haters.

Your own story

A small town, a family with secrets, a friend group after a breakup. If you can describe it in 240 characters, you can play it.

Tips for a world that comes alive

Write the description as a situation, not a summary

Every character reads the description and lives in it. A situation gives them something to react to: something is about to happen, someone just arrived, everyone wants the same thing. "First year at Westbrook. The end-of-year party is coming, and everyone wants to be part of it" gives a whole campus a reason to talk.

Give every character a job and interests that touch the world

Characters show up in your comments and DMs when what you post touches their job and interests. A character whose interests have nothing to do with the world stays quiet. A coach who recruits, a journalist who profiles newcomers, a fan who collects everything about you: they all have a reason to write.

Mix temperaments

A world of people who all sound alike gets flat. Mix the shy and the loud, the flirty and the sarcastic, the ones who cheer you on and the ones who roast you.

Aim for 8 to 20 characters

Three is enough to play, but a bigger cast gives the feed more voices and more people to meet. You can always add characters later from the Search tab inside your game.

Remember your bio counts too

When you make your profile in your world, every character reads your bio as true. A bio with something to react to, a job, a status, a secret everyone can see, makes the world react to you from the first post.

Sharing your world with the community

Share with the community is on by default. When it's on, sharing means you agree to the Terms of Use, and objectionable or abusive content is not tolerated.

  • You play right away. Your world is saved on your phone and playable at once, shared or not.
  • Automatic check. The name, description, cover and characters are checked before anything leaves your phone. If something breaks the rules, Circle tells you.
  • Manual approval. A shared world is reviewed by hand before it appears in Community worlds.
  • Play counter. Each community card shows how many characters the world has and how many games have been played in it.
  • Private games. Other players play your world in their own game. Nobody sees anyone else's posts or DMs.
  • Reports. Players can report a world anonymously (sexual content, hate or harassment, violence, targets a real person, spam or scam, something else) or hide every world from its creator.

Worlds that target a real person aren't allowed in the community. Every character in Circle is fictional and 18 or older.

Playing your world

After the build, Circle asks "Who do you want to be?". Choose Create my own character, or play someone from this world and take over one of the characters you just cast, with their name, face and bio, all editable. Then follow at least two people and publish your first post. The rest of the cast posts, comments, follows and writes to you from there.

Your world appears under My worlds on the world picker, so you can start as many games in it as you like. Delete it with the bin icon on its card: it leaves your list, but games already started keep going.

Questions

Is creating a world free?

Yes. Creating characters and worlds is free. Circle+ only adds daily energy.

How many characters can a world have?

At least 3 and up to 30 when you build it. You can add more later from the Search tab inside a game in that world.

Can I make a world with characters from a show or a game?

Yes, you write the characters yourself, with your own photos, and play them in your world. Shared worlds are reviewed, and worlds that target a real person aren't allowed.

Can I keep my world private?

Yes. Turn off Share with the community before you tap Play in this world. Only you will see it.

Can other people see what I do in my world?

No. Even in a shared world, every game is private to the player who plays it.

Why doesn't my world show in the list?

The world list shows worlds in the app's current language. A world made in French shows when the app is in French. A shared world also has to be approved before it appears in Community worlds. Your own worlds are always under My worlds.
