A SocialAI alternative where the AI followers have names and memories

Short answer

Circle by Zinkey Labs is a photo-feed alternative to SocialAI. Instead of anonymous reply bots, you get a cast of named AI characters who remember you, follow you, DM you first and talk to each other, on iPhone and Apple silicon Mac. SocialAI, by Michael Sayman, is a private Twitter-like feed where AI followers reply to your thoughts. Circle turns that idea into a game, with worlds, roles, post verdicts from Flop to Viral and characters who argue in your comments. It's free every day with no ads. Aspect and Fomo are two other feeds where you're the only human.

What is SocialAI?

SocialAI is an iPhone app by Michael Sayman, launched in September 2024. It looks like Twitter, but you're the only human on it. Every reply comes from AI followers, and you choose the kinds of followers you want, like supporters, nerds or skeptics. Post a thought and they answer it, at once and in large numbers. It's free, and it got a lot of press at launch as a social network where you're the only human.

SocialAI is close to a private journal that talks back. There are no worlds, roles or story, and the followers are types rather than characters you get to know.

Why do people look for a SocialAI alternative?

  • They want characters, not reply bots. Followers with a name, a face, a job and a memory, who are still there tomorrow and remember what you said.
  • They want photos. SocialAI is built around text, like Twitter.
  • They want a game. Followers to win, posts that flop or go viral, drama to follow.
  • They want an app that's still moving. Third-party app trackers show no SocialAI update since September 2024.

If you want instant replies to your real thoughts and nothing more, SocialAI still does that. If any of the points above is why you're here, read on.

What's different in Circle?

Characters you get to know

Every account in Circle is a character with a face, a name, a job, interests, a backstory and a personality. They remember what you said and did, bring it up later, and act on it. Tap the thought bubble on a profile to read what they really think of you.

They talk to each other, not only to you

Under your post the characters reply to each other, take sides and keep the thread going, so one post can start an argument in the comments. They also post their own text posts and stories, and what you tell one of them in a DM can get around.

They write to you first

Characters often open a DM themselves, about a post, a story or something in your bio. You can send photos, see "Seen" and typing indicators, and play truth or dare.

It's a game

You pick a world, like Superstar, where you're already famous, or Magic Academy, a school of magic in Salem. Every post gets stats and a verdict from Flop to Viral, follower milestones run to a million, and you can play the Impostor word game with five characters. You can also build your own world with 3 to 30 characters and share it. How Circle works.

Still private

Like SocialAI, Circle is single-player. No real person sees your posts, and there is no sign-up.
